G Fenton is not only new to loveyoudivine, but also fairly new to authoring. A Sailor Lad’s First Time came out this October, and is a cherry popping tale for all you folk who can’t resist a virgin! We’ve grilled him lightly to find out more about who our new writer is and what we can expect from him.
lyd: You’re a straight guy writing erotica, which is pretty rare in this genre. I’m wondering if you have any ideas why there might not be so many straight guys writing smut?
G Fenton: I’m not sure. I suspect that there are very few guys who will admit to
reading erotica, so they’ll be even less willing to admit to writing it!
lyd: Yet plenty of guys do admit to reading and watching porn. What makes erotica different, do you think?
G Fenton: For me, the difference is in the way erotica is written. Porn tends to be “wham, bam, thank you, ma’am” whereas erotica has believable characters, a realistic plot, proper grammar and the occasional nice turn of phrase. At least, that’s what I try to achieve. I suspect also that erotica tends to get classed as, or associated with, “romantic fiction” which is traditionally associated with a female readership.
lyd: I suspect you’re right there. Would you describe your erotica as romantic (I’ve read the first one, so I may know the answer, but I’ve no idea where you’re heading next!)
G Fenton: I don’t think I would use the word “romantic” since I don’t think I have any of my characters actually fall in love. This is not to say that this won’t happen in the future; the stories tend to go where the characters take me. The next story will be the first of a series. I have seven written with, hopefully, three to come. The characters haven’t yet told me where they want to end up!
lyd: Ooh, do we get any clues about where the series is going? Genre? Anything?
G Fenton: It’ll be in the Sugar & Spice section, and will tell the exploits of a manservant during a summer spent in “The Upper East Side by the Sea” – ie The Hamptons, one summer.
lyd: That sounds like it’ll have a lot of scope for sexual adventures. So, who are your main influences as a writer?
G Fenton: A lot more scope for sexual adventures than I experienced the three summers I was a butler exiled to The Hamptons!
Main influences? I don’t think that my style of writing or, indeed, subject matter is influenced by any other writer. In reading, I tend to find an author, then read everything he or she has written. I read a variety of books – when I moved to the US, I read up on American history – what there is of it – and greatly enjoyed David McCullough’s books. In terms of writers who have influenced my life, I would say that these would be: Spike Milligan, whose philosophy that if you don’t plan anything, nothing can go wrong has been a theme of my life; Erich von Däniken, whose books lured me away from Christianity to agnosticism; Jay Lancaster – who persuaded me to bring my stuff to LYD.
lyd: How did you meet our fabulous Jay?
G Fenton: We’re both members of the Sealed Knot historical re-enactment society. I’ve been a member of it since 1980, but since I moved to the States I’ve been pretty much retired. I do help out with the commentary, which is how I met Ron Hutton.
We bantered a bit on the SK website forums, (fora?) but we actually only met for the first time face to face August Bank Holiday this year. (I try to make it over for that weekend, as I can catch up with all my old chums.) We arranged to meet up so that we could discuss whether I wanted to submit stories to lyd and you know the rest!

So there’s your first taste of our new boy, walking proof that straight does not have to mean any kind of dull! G Fenton is part of our new move to bring you more het erotica – not to be confused with the conventions of het romance. Sexy stories of wild, playful adventures, looking into all the ways in which heterosexuality can also be alternative.
The interviewer would like to mention that Mr Fenton confessed a few other things that he didn’t want included, but that the interviewer can now vouch for him being a VERY interesting man with a truly colourful history and the kind of lifestyle that’s going to no doubt inform his fiction in delicious ways. Fiction is not autobiography, but we know at lyd that people who dare to live life to the full have a lot of raw material to turn into hot stories.
Welcome aboard Mr Fenton, we know you’re going to fit in perfectly!
